Applying chatgpt to teaching speaking skills to secondary school students through the communicative approach

Abstract

The article examines the use of ChatGPT in teaching speaking skills to secondary school students within the framework of the Communicative Language Teaching approach. It substantiates the theoretical principles of CLT, emphasizing learner–centered instruction, authentic communicative tasks, and the balance between fluency and accuracy. The study describes contemporary lesson models, and analyzes the role of generative artificial intelligence as a supportive teaching tool. The findings demonstrate that integrating CLT principles with AI–powered chatbots enhances speaking competence and learner motivation. Practical recommendations for implementing ChatGPT in secondary school foreign language classrooms are offered.
