Artificial intelligence in language education: The role of chatbots in speech practice

Abstract

Modern education actively incorporates artificial intelligence technologies, such as chatbots based on natural language processing, to develop foreign language speaking skills. Their key advantages include increased motivation, accessibility, and reduced anxiety among students when practising speech. However, the use of chatbots has controversial aspects, including formulaic phrases, orientation towards a specific level of language proficiency, and unwillingness to completely replace teachers.
